About Dr Nicola MacRobert

Training & background

Dr Nicola MacRobert did her undergraduate medical degree through the University of Cape Town and qualified as the gold medallist in 2012. She then worked for four years at the Far East Rand Hospital in Springs, including two years in the Surgical Department.

She subsequently completed her General Surgery Fellowship through the University of the Witwatersrand, obtaining her MMED and FCS (SA) in 2021 and was the recipient of the Douglas Award in the Final General Surgical Examinations.

She then went on to subspecialise in surgical gastroenterology with a special interest in colorectal surgery. She obtained her Certificate in Surgical Gastroenterology in 2023.

Approach to care

Dr MacRobert believes that quality surgical care is highly dependent on working in a multidisciplinary team with access to other specialised physicians and services such as radiology and ICU. She is grateful for the opportunity to work at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre which provides such multidisciplinary exceptional services. She also values the proctorship and mentorship she receives from the other colorectal surgeons in the Colorectal Unit at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre.

Affiliations

Dr MacRobert is a consultant in the Gastrointestinal Unit at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and is involved in the surgical training of medical students and surgical trainees at the University of the Witwatersrand.
